1 in 10 people have an general anxiety disorder or a phobia. It is not uncommon to experience depression and anxiety at the same time. Anxiety is a normal reaction to some circumstances but it can start to interfere with daily life, work and social life.
Any of the following would suggest help is needed:

worries are extremely stressful and upsetting

worry about all sorts of things and have a tendency to think the worst

worrying is uncontrollable

feeling worried nearly every day for at least six months
The typical symptoms of anxiety are:

Feeling worried all the time

Unable to concentrate

Feeling tired

Feel restless and agitated
-
Feeling irritable/impatient
-
Sleeping badly
-
Panic attacks
-
Avoiding situations that cause anxiety or panic
As with all conditions that affect thoughts and feelings, anxiety can cause physical symptoms. It is important to remember that these can be the symptoms that may lead people to make an appointment at their GP surgery.
